For quick deployment of on-scene communications for global and nationally significant events, a spectrally efficient and easy to use solution is needed for agile communications within an agency. In response to an emergency, first responders unite to provide disaster relief, security and medical aid at the scene of the incident. When they arrive on a scene, each agency usually has their own communications system, setup on different frequency bands; as such, they have no way to quickly and securely communicate with each other across bands. When a disaster is imminent, notifying first responders to provide aid is critical to saving lives and averting a greater disaster. Without a quick and effective method for notification, first responders are not able to quickly respond. Road crews need to communicate to synchronise their workload and coordinate resources. Yet the current communications solutions with a high power radio within vehicles creates risk for road crews and do not meet the needs of simplicity and reliability. In mountainous or heavily forested regions where communications are obstructed by the natural environment, ensuring a call reaches its destination is not guaranteed. This communication becomes especially critical in hazardous environments and in emergency situations such as wildfires.

When first responders enter a building and lose communications connectivity with the outside world, their safety and the safety of those they are helping is compromised, reducing the effectiveness of the operation. If your communications network doesn’t guarantee the safety of your people inside a building, you need a communications solution that does. When radio coverage can’t be guaranteed across a Police agency’s operational area, their officer’s safety is at risk whenever they enter a threatening situation. Not having access to a reliable wide area communications network within a geographic region means that an officer can’t call nearby units or dispatch and therefore cannot be assured that assistance is on the way. Firefighters equipped with their handheld radios can find themselves in coverage “dead spots”, unable to communicate with their teams and their dispatch, often when communications are critical and lives hang in the balance. The limited channels available to firefighters and the diverse environments in which disaster can strike mean that traditional infrastructure configurations often fail to provide adequate coverage.
