NX-5000 Series
Kenwood introduced the NX-5000 series, the company’s first dual-mode portable and mobile radios that will operate on either the NXDN or P25 network, at IWCE 2014. According to Jeannie Cameron, Kenwood USA’s marketing manager, “If you want to specifically talk on either or, you flip a switch and it takes you to the P25 or the NEXEDGE, but it will scan across both modes.” The pricing for the radios is between Kenwood’s high-tier 10 series and mid-tier 20 series. “So, it’s not intended to replace the 10 series of products that we have now—the 5210, the 5310, the 5710 and the 5810—it’s intended to be a completely different product category,” said Cameron. This dual-mode flexibility is not limited to Kenwood USA’s portable and mobile portfolio, as the company also introduced this capability into its systems products as well.
